The City of Rosemount has taken significant steps to enhance public safety with the appointment of Carson Thomas as the new Police Chief and the introduction of a drone program.
Appointment of Police Chief Carson Thomas
After serving six months as Interim Chief, Carson Thomas was officially sworn in as Rosemount’s Police Chief during the City Council meeting on April 7. With over two decades of law enforcement experience, Chief Thomas is recognized for his commitment to service and community engagement. Mayor Jeff Weisensel expressed confidence in Thomas’s leadership, stating that his approach reflects the values the community expects and deserves.
Launch of the Drone Program
In addition to new leadership, the Rosemount Police Department has launched an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) or drone program. This initiative aims to support officers during emergency responses, investigations, and community safety operations. The program adheres to state laws and federal aviation regulations, ensuring the protection of individual privacy. Chief Thomas highlighted that drones enhance officers’ ability to keep people safe, especially in emergencies.
